Why Try Pickleball?

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

You may have heard this before… “Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country.” There is a reason for that. The sport is really starting to become popular due to its accessibility as well as the fact that it doesn’t take long to start to enjoy, even if you’ve never played before! Pickleball is an easy to learn paddle sport, and it is appropriate for all ages and skill levels! Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, anyone can find enjoyment when playing this sport that is starting to explode in popularity!

Pickleball promotes an active and healthy lifestyle

There is no doubt that pickleball is great for your health. The sport specifically works on agility, balance and hand-eye coordination, while also providing the same benefits of regular exercise. There are some quick movements involved, moving up to the kitchen line to establish yourself at the net for example. Games can also get prolonged from time to time, which can be a great element of sustained exercise. Sometimes people play a variety of games and drills for over 2 hours! That is sure to give you a workout! Keeping those reactions sharp is important, pickleball has some of the fastest paced rallies out there once both teams are up at the net!

Pickleball is a great way to stay healthy because it doesn’t have the same wear and tear on the body that other sports can inflict. There are definitely some quick and explosive movements, but the damage done to the knees, ankles, and other joints is minimal compared to other racquet sports! Whether you are playing recreationally, or are really getting into the competitive nature of the sport, pickleball gives all players the ability to improve their balance, reflexes, agility, and hand-eye coordination without putting excessive strain on the body! Give it a try and you’ll see just how good of exercise it can be!

It doesn’t take long to enjoy yourself!

Pickleball is one of those things where it is “easy to learn, difficult to master.” A deceptively simple game that can grow more complex the more you play. The best part of it is that it doesn’t take long to be able to get enjoyment out of it, which can be rare in racquet sports! In some other sports you may be needing to put in a few hours to get your technique to a certain level or be practiced enough where you are able to sustain a rally, with pickleball this isn’t really the case! The fundamentals of the sport can be learned very quickly! The court is relatively small, compared to a tennis court, or even a racquetball court! This means that there is less court needed to cover which can help beginner players be able to get their paddles on most shots. Also, calling upon that hand-eye coordination to make contact with the ball and paddle doesn’t take long to develop at all! Anyone who gives it a shot for the first time will most likely be able to have fun and play competitive rallies within the hour! Whether you are new to the sport, or have been around the block a few times, there is plenty of fun to be had!

Pickleball is a great way to socialize, meet new people, and be with friends and family!

Pickleball is also known for its social aspect. This sets it apart from most other sports where the focus is to play, and then go back to whatever you were doing beforehand. Pickleball allows for socialization within competitive or casual play. Playing and enjoying the company of others is the foundation of what this sport is all about. There is something special about getting a few friends together and hitting the courts for a couple of hours. The nature of quick games encourages rotating partners, moving up and down courts, and getting to play with people you might not otherwise get the chance to play. It is very easy to enjoy one another’s company while playing. Players can rotate within a group, allowing some players to take a break to watch the game from the sides, or to socialize and grab a beverage or some food. There are groups of all skill levels and ages that are formed, allowing for the inclusion of just about anyone to join in the action!

There are plenty of reasons to get out there and give pickleball a try. Maybe you just want to try to learn a new sport that is recently exploding in popularity. It could also could be a fun activity that you can enjoy with your spouse or friend group. Whatever the reason might be, there is no harm in giving it a shot, but be warned, it can be addicting!

We hope to see you out at the Picklebarn! There will be opportunities for everyone to come and enjoy the sport, regardless of age or skill level!
